CNY Katendrecht 2020

On February 3, 2020, Shinji Entertaiment provided the lion parade in the old Chinatown of Rotterdam, where the first Chinese in Rotterdam settled in Katendrecht. As a tribute to this history, Rotterdam organizes a parade for entrepreneurs and local residents every year.

We started the procession from Hotel New York. After setting up the stuff at Hotel New York, the team made the final preparations. From this location, the lion dancers and musicians went to the 1st location, Verhalenhuis Belvedere. After the beating ceremony, the lion went in to perform briefly.

The next destination was the retirement home and was a short walk away. The lions went playfully with the music towards the location. It was on the water and the wind was blowing hard that day. So hard that the lions couldn't walk straight. Once at the flat the wind was a bit calmer. That made picking up the lettuce a bit easier and safer. After the ceremony, the lions left the story house towards Deliplein. In the square the lions put on a show and played with the bystanders.

After all that jumping and playing, the lions are hungry again and leave for the next entrepreneur, the Fish Room. Despite being distracted by the green plants in front of the store, the red lion found the lettuce. A few shops away was the next destination, Rein's taste locally. The orange lion was treated to a little extra with the lettuce, a glass of wine!

There was a strong wind on the bridge that connects Katendrecht to the Wilhelmina pier. And this time too it was difficult to keep walking straight to the next destination, namely Hotel New York. The intention was to perform the ceremony at the western entrance, however the high winds made this impossible to perform safely and even at the northern entrance it was a challenge not to be blown over. But, the red lion had done the job and grabbed the lettuce! After the ceremony at Hotel New York it is time for a break to recover from the wind walking. Time for some coffee and a sandwich before the Shinji Entertainment team made the final leg

It was originally the plan to perform at restaurant Mood. This may have been the highlight of the pageant last year. However, Mood had canceled last minute this year due to an emergency. the corona virus. In order to be able to give a blessing with a wink to the owner, the lions had performed shortly in front of the window on their way to the Foodhallen. The highlight of the Katendrecht parade with the public, the Foodhallen. After the lions took the lettuce, they entered the Foodhallen together and walked to all corners and eat tents of the building.

The last round of the parade in Katendrecht ended at restaurant Aqua Asia. After taking the lettuce, both lions went around the restaurant to entertain the guests.

After the last stop, the team went for a short photo shoot on the quay with the iconic image of the Erasmus Bridge in the background. Quite a challenge with the strong wind! The team then quickly left for Hotel New York to load up and leave for the head office. It was a long, fun and team strengthening day!
